Cae Mabon
eco retreat centre, Snowdonia
Luke works with the trees at Cae Mabon. He trained and worked as a tree surgeon for a number of years, and now helps to look after the many wonderful specimens which grow here. His work has included carving and incorporating spectacular sections of timber into some of the building structures (including the treehouse beams and the ‘larchway’ gate behind the barn). He has been spotted climbing through the treetops at Cae Mabon since 2013, and hopes to do so for many more years. Since finishing his forestry degree at Bangor University, Luke has been working on his PhD in environmental microbiology, focussing on how fungi can be used to help deliver minerals to plants in poor soils. He is particularly interested in fungi, and is prone to spending lots of time closely examining tiny mushrooms growing out of tree stumps and cracks in the rocks.
